The USS Southern Cross came of the need for a sci fi chapter that is operational via 100% correspondence.
Because the STARFLEET Region 11 (Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia & East Indies) is such a vast area, not everyone wishing to pursue an online sci fi experience can be easily integrated into meeting chapters and thus the benefits of membership by correspondence provides an excellent answer.

With the encouragement of several Region 11 residents, the Southern Cross was established and promoted to attract those persons to whom the tyranny of distance, or for other reasons, are not inclined to join a chapter that is may be too localised in its activities and we on the 'Cross take great pride from our ability to truly reflect an 'international membership'..

Our current crew is made up of a good mix of Aussies and Kiwis with even a few Stateside members, and thus truly reflects the international aspects of which STARFLEET International  sets as one of its guiding and founding principles. The Southern Cross will welcome members from anywhere on the planet (or the galaxy for that matter) and so we would be happy to accept membership applications from wherever you may be.
We enjoy a broad range of sci fi interests and have no preconceived ideas on what would constitute an “unacceptable” sci fi interest for any member.  If it’s sci fi – it fits!

The mission of our chapter is a simplistic one.

It is our desire to firstly ensure that our members have a well-supported, organised, functional and very friendly environment in which to pursue their interests.

We will achieve this by constant and open communication – enabling all members to participate to whatever degree they are comfortable with, secure in the knowledge that the activities and actions taken by the chapter as a group, will be open for all to see.

We will ensure that all chapter members are kept free from any prejudice or harassment of any kind and new members will always be assured that their needs, interests and questions will be fully explored and answered.

While the Southern Cross is a Region 11 chapter, we will welcome membership from anywhere in the world – and at the same time, ensure that we offer and provide the very best of support, resources, encouragement and inter-action with any other Region 11 chapters that may exist.

As our “prime directive” is to provide a fun-filled, friendly, and fully inter-active club, we of the USS Southern Cross will always ensure that our actions and deeds will be those of an open, honest group of people, pursuing their common interests always to the good of the chapter.
